SDI will be organizing a Brown Bag talk on ‘Reforestation and Circular Economy in Sarawak’ which will be delivered by Dr. Henry Chan, Conservation Director, WWF-Malaysia and a member of SDI.
In the era of global warming, we need to take all efforts to reduce our carbon emission. At the same time, we must maintain and increase our natural forest cover as carbon sink to absorb the carbon emissions. The parallel effort on reforestation and circular economy serves as a crucial approach to address climate change. In Sarawak, we need to undertake reforestation in all degraded and deforested areas that have been designated for forest cover under our State’s policy goal to gazette 1 million hectares of Totally Protected Areas and 6 million hectares of Permanent Forest Estates.
Based on this background, Dr. Henry will share some of the strategies to incorporate reforestation into circular economy and the conceptual thoughts on how different players can form a consortium to transform the space between growing trees into renewable energy and produce at a scale that reduces our dependence on fossil fuel to power our economy.

The ASEAN Australian Engineering Congress 2022 (AAEC2022) aims to foster excellence in the practice of “Engineering Solutions in the Age of Digital Disruption”. The Congress presents an opportunity for consulting engineers, researchers, designers, contractors, local councils, implementing government agencies and suppliers to discuss engineering research and solutions for achieving Industry 4.0 and digital transformation while maximizing process efficiencies in the industry for optimizing safety and sustainability. The Congress also provides a forum to review knowledge, disseminate information, promote awareness, facilitate collaboration, and make recommendations. Innovative engineering projects and potential solutions will be presented in the form of technical presentations to encourage constructive discussions and to also provide a networking opportunity amongst university lecturers, students, staff of government implementing agencies and practicing consulting engineers
